Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

HEADRUSH is $20 per person and $45 per family. (Even if you have 10 kids in your family-what a deal!) Although, if you donate $100 or more to HEADRUSH, then admission to the event is "free" for you and/or your family. The proceeds raised will directly benefit Brain Tumor Research and Education at the UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in the form of a Brain Tumor Research Professorship. Please note that your paid registration to HEADRUSH does include admission into Blue Mound State Park.

How do I sign up?

There are 2 ways to register. You can register directly on our website by clicking on the "donate and register!" icon and filling out/submitting the form. You can also register by mail and send in your completed registration form with the appropriate money to the HEADRUSH address listed. Every registrant gets a free HEADRUSH t-shirt! By the way, pre-registering is not mandatory. Anyone is welcome to register on the day of the event.

Do I have to pre-register or can I register on the day of the event?

You do not have to pre-register. You can totally spontaneously decide to come, and then register on the day of the event. Although, we strongly encourage you to pre-register if you are able.

Do I need to check-in when I get to HEADRUSH even if I have pre-registered?

Yes! EVERYONE needs to check-in when they arrive at HEADRUSH. You need to pick up your HEADRUSH t-shirt and the program for the day!

What will I do at HEADRUSH?

Hang out with friends, take a nature hike, celebrate life, go for a bike ride, check out all the alternative and western therapies at the Health Fair, participate in a yoga class, play Frisbee, enjoy some live entertainment, wear a dedication sticker, eat a yummy lunch, meet others touched by Brain Tumors, be inspired, talk to a nutritionist, take part in the organized naturalist-lead hike or mountain bike ride, get a massage, meet new friends, learn, watch your children enjoy the many kid activities, and tell your family and friends that you love them.

What is a dedication sticker?

We will have HEADRUSH dedication stickers available for you to write down the name of a loved one(s) affected by some significant life issue. Then wear your sticker with pride because you are dedicating your day to them.

Who will be at the Health Fair?

UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, UW Integrated Medicine, a nutritionist, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, a cranio-sacrel therapist, a chiropractor, an energy therapist, a Shaklee representative, and many more alternative and western therapy representatives.

Will there be stuff for kids to do at HEADRUSH?

You bet! We will have one big area dedicated just to kids. Face painting, balloons, art activities, and tons of crafts. Some local girl scouts will be there with even more kid activities, games and fun! And of course Tami, the infamous balloon sculpting genius!

What if it rains?

Bring your raincoat and rubber boots! Rain or shine, HEADRUSH will happen. We have a shelter and we'll have a tent, and we'll all probably get a little wet if it does rain, but we'll still have fun!

Where exactly in Blue Mound State Park will HEADRUSH take place?

We will be at the very top of the mound, right in the main area of the park. We'll have the large shelter, the bathrooms are nearby, and the two towers for viewing the rolling hills of Southern Wisconsin are only a short walk away.

What's up with the organized hike, mountain bike ride and nature hike?

Yes, there will be a few organized hikes and an organized mountain bike ride. This year we are excited to have a dedicated nature specialist giving nature hikes both in the morning and in the afternoon. Fun! Also, please remember that the park and all of its trails are open for participation throughout the whole day. Our routes will be fabulously signed and labeled all day as well, so if you miss the one you wanted to go on, or if you want to do the same one again later on, you absolutely may. (By they way, bikes will not be provided, so if you want to participate in the bike ride, you must bring your own bike and gear.) We strongly encourage all who are able, to participate in these activities, as they were the genesis for the HEADRUSH event.

I don't want to mountain bike, but I'd like to go for a ride with my road bike, is that ok?

You bet! There are many nice smooth roads around Blue Mound State Park. It's a beautiful area to bike in. Have fun!

I'm wondering about the yoga session, is it a hard class?

All the classes are gently instructed and open to ALL who wish to participate. Only requirement is to take off your shoes and socks, and relax. Namaste.

I can't go, but can I still make a donation?

Absolutely, and thank you! You can click on the "donate and register!" icon on the website homepage and fill out the form. You can also send us a check with a note. Good karma is priceless.

Can I just come for an hour?

Our schedule for the day runs from 9:30AM to 4PM. You can come whenever you want and leave whenever you want. Entertainment and activities run throughout the entire day. Food and drinks are provided for lunch, so make sure you are there for that!

What do I need to bring with me?

An open heart, many smiles, and whatever else you need to have a good time. Depending on what you want to do during the day, you should bring the appropriate gear.
